| PRESS RELEASE Hālau Ha'a Kea o Mokihana of Washington D.C. will be presenting a three day celebration called the "Princess Ka'iulani Festival" on October 15, 16 and 17, 2010. The "Princess Ka'iulani Festival" will be based on the inspiring and true story of H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria Kawekiu Lunalilo Kalaninuiahilapalapa Ka'iulani Cleghorn, 1875 -1899, an heir to the throne of the Hawaiian Kingdom. The celebration will consist of a first night dramatic theatrical play on the life of the Princess Ka'iulani. The second day, October 16th, we will be celebrating the 135th Anniversary of Princess Ka'iulani's birth. For her birthday we will be hav- ing a two-part hula competition. The East Coast Hula Competition will be for hālau and hula enthusiasts who reside east of the Mississippi and an Interna- tional Hula Competition for those who reside outside of the U.S. Any others from the West including Hawai'i are asked to support this "Princess Ka'iulani Festival" by performing in the non-competitive Hula Ho'ike to be held on Sunday, the third and final day. This will be an authentic Hawaiian Lū'au & Ho'olaulea. "By telling her story and celebrating together as people of Aloha, we intend to educate the Public and inspire our young people of all nationalities to stand up and make a difference in the world no matter what the odds", said Kumu Hula Paul K. Neves, who founded and directs Hālau Ha'a Kea o Mokihana from the village of Keaukaha just outside the town of Hilo, Hawai'i. "This courageous story of leadership is an eternal flame of hope for all who would seek a better tomorrow. Let the fire of this incredible young lady, our Ali'i, Princess Ka'iulani rekindle our love for Hawai'i and the world. In her name let us consider the 21st Century as a new and inspiring Century of Aloha. " |
